When I needed to get off the piss, my goal was never about not drinking. It was about achieving something that meant I couldn’t drink if I wanted to achieve it.

“I don’t understand the psychology behind it.” - it’s called momentum. Hard to build, but once you’ve got it... look out!

Yeah, it truly is. We can't do everything on our own.

Yeah, we need to have a reason to not drink. Something deeper. Doesn't matter what it is.

100%, that's why I'm so afraid to allow myself to rest or break my routine. I don't want to lose that momentum. Working on finding a balance though, it'll get easier with practice and I'll get there.

Well done on 6 months. The friendship thing is a good one. I'm mates with a group of people I went to school with. We had the biggest nights in the city. I led the charge often. We had a barbecue recently where most of the guys brought zero% beer. I didn't say anything but I did appreciate the shift. I took regular beer. But only had 4 in many hours. Where that kind of sensibility would have been ridiculed in our 20s. It wasn't even mentioned now. Absolute acceptance. It's a powerful thing.

Thanks Joshy,

I think as we mature these things kind of happen organically. In my case, a lot of my mates were and are heading in that direction already. I just couldn't seem to do it. The thing is, we assume people aren't going to be accepting of the changes were trying to implement so we don't even test the waters., Often after we do we find they are surprisingly accepting and very supportive. We just have to be brave enough to take the first step and find out.
